Float rods - for float fishing and more
Many anglers want to have something universal in their collection of rods, a rod that will not fail in different weather conditions, can haul a large fish and still be sensitive, and, perhaps most importantly, depending on the final set can be used for fishing with many methods. There is no such thing as a perfectly universal rod, but float rods come close to this ideal. Let's see what this type of rod can be used for.

Float, or fishing on a float
The main purpose of float rods is float fishing. This sophisticated method has many different versions - we can fish with a fixed or through float, and this one is available not only in the classic version, but also in a distance one. Float rods are relatively light, so fishing with them is very comfortable. The comfort while casting a float depends on the construction of the rod. It is believed that the longer the rod, the more accurate and further our casts will be. However, it is worth paying attention to the fact that if we use a very long rod to fish on a float in deep water (deeper than the length of the rod) the stopper will usually have more guides to overcome than in the case of a shorter rod. As you know, every contact of the stopper with the guide creates some resistance, so you don't have to buy the longest rod possible. However, the length will be an advantage when fishing with a fixed float - a 5-metre float rod will allow us to cast such, usually very delicate set in a place up to 4m deep. It can also be used for the Bologna method and other river float types. Float rods, which are suitable only for float fishing, belong to the most delicate ones in their category, their casting weight does not exceed 40g, and most often it is 5-25g.

Fishing rods for big fish - float as a lure
We can successfully fish with a float rod for a live bait, as long as we are not aiming for one meter pikes and a few dozen-kilo catfish (although many float rods can surprise us and can withstand even such monsters!). A small minnow or crucian carp is enough of an incentive for most predators - using it as bait on a float rod is perfectly safe, provided that the whole set does not exceed the casting weight specified by the manufacturer, of course. The models with a casting weight of over 40g are recommended for baitcasting. You should choose the length according to your preferences - some people prefer comfortable casting with a longer rod, others trust shorter rods more. Instead of a live fish on the hook, you can also put a "corpse" or a fillet.

Float rods - good for light ground fishing
There are two ground methods for which we can successfully use a float rod. The first one is traditional ground with a spring or just a weight. The rod lies on supports in one line with the line, and the classic "bomb" serves as a signal. The rod bought for this purpose doesn't have to be long, the universal size is 3.6m. Another way of ground fishing is a vibrating tip - yes, it is possible even without a feeder, provided that we fish for medium and large specimens with a heavy set in strong current. Takes in the river are usually more aggressive and clear on the tip, so even the tip of the float rod will signal us that something is happening with the lure. In this case, it won't be out of the question to use a rod of about 4 meters, because it should be placed on the tip so that as little line as possible is in the water. As in the case of the "live" method described above, the casting weight of the float rod should be higher than 40g.

How about a float for spinning?
Some people think that a short (less than 3m.) float rod will also work well as a spinning rod. When buying a float with this in mind, you need to carefully check the rod's action and balance to make fishing comfortable, for good contact with the lure and effective jerking. The casting weight of 5-25g is enough for most spinning techniques, and if the predators refuse to cooperate, you can always rearm this rod for a float or groundbait.

Float rods - telescopes or tip-up rods?
Rods from this category can be divided into telescopic and a few-part (usually 3-part) tip rods. What is the difference between these two types?

"Telescopes" are, of course, rods in which each successive section is narrower than the previous one enough to slip into when folding the equipment. They are valued for their portability, ease of use and short transport length, which is important for people who take a rod on every trip or vacation "just in case". The disadvantages of this solution are the limited number of guides, which does not exceed the number of sections, as well as the high weight of telescopic rods in comparison with capped ones, which will not be a problem if we intend to use them for stationary sights behind a float or ground.

Tip-up poles are usually much lighter than the "telescopes" and they also have a better contact with the lure or towed fish because the signals from the tip don't get scattered on many elements. Unfortunately, their transport often poses some difficulties, because after being folded they do not fit into a backpack or a bag. The large transport length encourages damage to the equipment. If we have a solid case or a special tube for rods, we will avoid most of the troubles.

Float rod for a beginner
This type of rod is a very good proposition for beginners because of its universality. An angler who is just looking around for a float rod should consider what they want to use it for. You can use the same rod for float, ground and light live bait, but it will not replace a real groundbait or a powerful monster feeder. Float rods are primarily for float fishing, other methods should be treated as alternatives.

The beginner should take into account the length (about 3.6 m is considered the most universal), the weight of the rod if he or she prefers active fishing with frequent casting, as well as the casting weight, which will be
