Line baits - what to use for a tench?

Morning tench fishing, or Des Taylor's paradise choice.
There is something magical about fishing for tench at dawn. Incredibly majestic, absolutely unique, and at the same time beautifully fighting tench can motivate even the biggest sleepers to get out of bed early in the morning. The braid of bubbles can make you dream all night long, and even the best anglers in the world dream about intense tench fishing. One of them is undoubtedly Des Taylor, a legend of British angling. A man who knows absolutely everything about fishing for barbel, chub, perch, pike, roach, or bream. He once said that if he had to dream about the most beautiful fishing trip, it would be a morning trip for tench. He pointed out that in order to fish for tench effectively you have to prepare the fishing ground very well first. You have to choose it, and then bait it very hard in the evening, so that in the morning the fish are already in the fishery. Without baiting it is very hard to get results. So don't forget about your bait for tench when you are preparing for a fabulous, tench adventure.
Tench - worthy opponent
Tench is one of the most characteristic fish in our waters. It has a beautiful, green color, red eyes and very small scales. It has a very large, strong tail, ending in a voluminous caudal fin, which makes it a very strong opponent during the fight. Besides, it is one of the few fish in which you can tell at first glance if it is male or female. Tench are considered to be one of the most ferocious freshwater fish.
No wonder that many anglers spend a lot of time and effort to meet a tench. To encourage a tench to feed properly you should use a proper tench bait. It's a groundbait similar in composition to carp groundbait, but the way of feeding of a tench is completely different than carp, so also the way of feeding must be completely different.
Groundbait for a tench - where to bait?
Tench is a fish feeding mainly at the bottom, penetrating muddy bottom sediments in search for food. So we should make sure that our bait for tench reaches the bottom in place where we plan to fish. We can't observe the presence of tench on the surface, but it marks its presence with very characteristic plaits of bubbles, which are hard to be mistaken with "slurping" of another fish.
To make our line bait effective we have to take care of its proper consistency and moistening. It has to be a bait, which won't smash on the surface, but will reach the bottom in a compact form and only there it will start to spread under the influence of water.
It's worth to use bait which we plan to use as an addition to the line bait, but in small amounts, so that the line searches for it and reaches the bait waiting on the hook.
Tench - bait always effective?
An interesting curiosity and a nightmare for tench enthusiasts is the fact that tench can change its taste predispositions. One day it can feed very actively on maize, completely ignoring the worms and meat baits. The next day it can be completely the opposite.
In such situations the role of line bait is invaluable. Despite changing taste predispositions of tench, bait has the same smell and attracts fish to feeding area no matter if they are looking for meat or plant food. It's a result of the fact that rope bait has a mixture of these aromas in its composition.
We think about tench very often in context of May mornings and evenings, but with proper preparation and using good tench bait we can catch them from spring until late autumn.
